Day Five: Red Rocks, Evergreen and Echo Lake

One of the main reasons I came to Colorado was to see a concert at Red Rocks Ampitheatre.

Sadly, sometimes plans change and you just need to roll with it. The North American tour for Dermot Kennedy was cancelled due to illness - so I was left with an extra day to wander.

Since I was planning on coming here anyways, I decided to get up early and head out to visit the park. Red Rocks is open to the public every day and they usually close around 2pm the days where there are events, but you can wander the grounds, hike the trails and visit the museum on site for free!

The view is spectacular and it was interesting learning about the history of this park and how it is one of the few outdoor ampitheatres with perfect acoustics.

There are also absolutely insane people who exercise here, running up and down the bleachers, jumping, crawling, climbing… you will definitely encounter a new type of people in Colorado.

Afterwards, I made my way to Evergreen, Colorado where I stopped for lunch and walked around their downtown area.

My plan was to then head to Echo Lake near Mount Blue Sky. I knew I wanted to see some snow on this trip and I was not disappointed.

Thankfully the sun was out, so most of the snow on the roads had melted by this point, but I really loved seeing the fresh snow covering the pine trees and their was a sort of quiet that you can only understand if you have been in a winters forest.

I was genuinely filled with happiness, it was the first time I had felt like that in a long time. It reminded me of winters growing up in Canada.

I had a chance to do some hiking and it was just the most perfect afternoon. It made me want to do more winter hiking and maybe I’ll need to do some more travel this winter to colder climates so I can walk in the snow.

Today was a peaceful day. I know I only have one more day after this, but this week has been really incredible. I am so lucky that I can do this.
